Last summer, I was really lucky to be approached by Naylor Accountancy, an accountancy firm based in Tunbridge Wells, to work with them to design their new office. The company had outgrown their current premises, but it wasn’t just a larger space to fit their expanding team that that they wanted, they wanted a fresh space that reflected the dynamic personalities of their staff and reinforced their company’s slick operation. They wanted an office that would wow their clients when they visited and a space their staff was delighted to walk into every single day. Owner Nikolai Naylor was able to see the power that a well-designed office space would bring to the Naylor brand straight-away and I jumped at the chance to work with him and make his design dreams a reality.
Naylor Accountancy found a fantastic space in the Southborough Business Centre that presented us with a few design challenges before we were able to roll-out the wow-factor. First, there was a lot of unnecessary stuff on the walls, including trucking and extra doors, which made the space look messy. As we needed to deliver something stunning on a set budget (remember, these are accountants after all!), we hunted for high-end pieces that provided great quality at a good price. We also had to keep in mind that we weren’t just designing for the present; Naylor Accountancy is growing and the space needed to be welcoming to their current and future staff. Our final design challenge was time. We had to move quickly with the design and implementation to get Naylor Accountancy into their new home.
To bring in the wow-factor, I selected a geometric mural wallpaper and used it as a dramatic backdrop to the office’s workspace. Crisp, stark white furniture popped against the backdrop and helped us ensure that every piece was coordinated. By choosing a stark white, we were able to easily source from various supplies which helped us balance the design scheme and the budget by using high-end pieces alongside more affordable design solutions from Ikea. We finished off the space by creating a comfortable breakout space, hanging a cool large-scale company sign, and selecting accessories in the brand’s signature blue.
I had such a great time working on this project and so enjoyed the company of the Naylor team. I love the dramatic change we made to the office, taking it from a dark and cluttered room to a productive working space that feels really fresh and bold, and I love that the design has created a space where everyone really enjoys working. But most of all, I love the lovely feedback I received from Nikolai when the project was finished:
Phoebe did a great job designing our office here at Naylor Accountancy Services and she has made it a place we all love to come to work. It gives us the modern clean look that we want to emphasis our modern approach to accounting. Clients always comment on how nice and modern our office is and it is functional. We also use the office on our website, for PR and marketing so it has been the best thing we did to get Smartstyle in.
