  The Amara Interior Blog Awards & Me

  They say a journey starts with a single step. My journey into blogging started on a spring day in 2013 with a few keystrokes and a single click. I didn’t start blogging because I had a real passion for writing or because I was a huge fan of other bloggers. In fact, I didn’t even read very many blogs at the time! Instead, I started blogging after being told that I needed to get with the times and start embracing social media and blogging if I wanted to further promote my interior design business. Like a sulky teenager, I sat myself down and put my fingers to the keypad to produce my first post.

  Ten Years of Smartstyle

  This month marks a decade since I founded Smartstyle Interiors. When I look at the Certificate of Incorporation that certifies Smartstyle is an official company, I almost can’t believe that this idea I had is not only real, but has been running for ten whole years! Ten years! I can’t help but feel a little glow of pride.

  As with all birthdays, especially big ones, I find myself taking a hard look back at the journey I’ve been on and all I’ve done to get to where I am today.

  Walking a New Path (in my culottes)

  We’re already halfway through January but it’s only now that I’ve been able to wrap my head around what it is that I want to get from this fresh new year. I feel that for many people, New Year’s resolutions are easy to make. As soon as the bell tolls midnight they seem to already be sprinting toward whatever new goal they’ve set with a resolute determination. For me, it always takes a little longer to settle on exactly what I want to do with the year, with all the new opportunity and optimism.

  A Designer with a Blog

  At the end of last week, we received the news that we have been shortlisted for Best Interior Designer Blog by the Amara Interior Blog Awards for the second year in a row. We’re thrilled to be in such company as  Fabrice Bana of A-Gent of Style, Claire Garner, Lucy Gough, and Sarah Akwisombe and we’re incredibly grateful to Amara and everyone who voted for us over the course of the competition. The results will be revealed on the 28th of October and we’re already looking forward to catching up with fellow shortlisted nominees and finding out who the winner is!

  Amara Interior Blog Awards

  We recently received the very exciting news that we are shortlisted for an Amara Blog Award for Best Interior Designer Blog. When we started our blog in 2013, we wanted to create content that would open the world of interior design to our readers, both through education and inspiration – and we are so honoured to have created a space that our readers truly enjoy and a community that we treasure.
