A charming weekend home renovation in Battle, East Sussex!
As some of you may know, there's nothing we love more than a renovation, so we were delighted to help our clients bring their charming personality to this Grade II listed home renovation in Battle, East Sussex. From the get-go, we were thrilled by the design challenges this unique property brought and couldn't wait to bring together the holy trinity of client desire, traditional architecture, and Smartstyle design to create a beautiful weekend retreat.
One of the biggest design challenges with this project was the lack of light. Like many old homes, the rooms felt slightly cramped and dark. Unlike other older properties, this Grade II listed building couldn't have as many modern renovations as some clients may have liked, especially when it came to lighting. As such, we were tasked with the job of making the spaces feel bright but cosy and spacious at the same time and to make a lot of this come through in the finishings. To do this, we pulled together a design scheme that reflected the client's taste and flowed through the entire space so it felt like one big cosy house and not a selection of disjointed rooms.
As this property isn't a full-time residence, we didn't have to create long-term storage solutions. We opted to remove fitted wardrobes and a chimney breast in each bedroom to free up some much-longed-for extra room to make the bedrooms extra inviting.
